Back story: In 2006 when I flew to Germany to look for foundation mares for our newly established breeding program. I met Clemens Von Merveldt and bought Winessa (DeNiro/Furioso II/Inschallah), from the famous Weissena damline, bred by Susanne Flege. She had a newly licensed son, Rhaposario by Rosario, a filly by Stedinger (Wellness) that Clemens retained and she was back in foal to Stedinger. We bought her in 2006, left her there to foal out and be bred back to Rohdiamant (Rockafella is owned by Cheryl Swing ) before importing the package in 2007. She quickly became my heart horse and has blessed us with 10 foals before we retired her in 2020 to live fat and happy as a pasture nanny!

That brings me to current day and a friend (knowing my love for Winessa) saw Wellfare (For Romance/Stedinger/DeNiro) and asked if she were related to Winessa. Sure enough, she's her granddaughter. She's a very accomplished Oldenburg mare having earned her Elite status, was 6th in the “brilliant ring”, has a licensed son by So Unique and was in foal to Escaneno. I asked Clemens Von Merveldt if he would sell her. We were able to come to terms and she arrived on “leap day” 2024 in the dark.

Since Gary and I have talked about downsizing, adding another mare to our herd was not on our radar but this was like Karma! We are so grateful to Clemens Von Merveldt, Rebecca Nichols-Maystead, Elizabeth Felgendreher, Guido Klatte GmbH & Co KG - International Horse Transport, The Dutta Corporation and Equine Express, NA INC!! Thank you all for helping make Wellfare a reality for the Walkabout Station breeding program! I'm so thrilled to have been able to add Winessa's granddaughter to our herd.

WELCOME HOME, WELLFARE!!

Wellfare is a striking black Premium Hanoverian mare whose presence commands attention. With her elegant conformation, expressive movement, and world-class bloodlines, she embodies the refinement and athleticism that define the modern Hanoverian.

Wellfare's sire, For Romance, is the epitome of a model sire stemming from a very successful Voltaire dam line.   With three excellent gaits, his canter and trot are exceptional, and his character is also remarkable. He stood out brilliantly in a strong lot of stallions at the 2011 Oldenburg licensing, and the enthusiastic spectators in Vechta gave him standing ovations.

As expected, For Romance I won his 30-day test in Schlieckau with super scores. He received a 9.25 for his trot and rideability, a 9.0 for his canter, and an 8.88 for character.

Wellfare's Dam is by Stedinger, a stallion celebrated for his exceptional type, rideability, and expressive gaits. For Romance I has consistently passed on refinement and elasticity, making him one of the most sought-after sires in contemporary sport horse breeding.  She's out of a De Niro daughter, further ensuring a strong genetic foundation in dressage performance and rideability.  

Wellfare is currently in foal to Salvino (Sandro Hit x Donnerhall) due June 2026.
